Tinted visors
Hi,
I have a Shoei Raid II helmet with pinlock anti-mist visor. However, I sometimes forget to take sun glasses with me (or just don't have the room) and if it gets very bright, I suffer from the glare, with my eyes streaming (I've got blue eyes). I thought about getting a tinted visor, but I want to have the pinlock visor as well. It seems visors come in 3 different levels of tinting. I'm not sure whether to go for light tinting of the main visor, light tinting of the pinlock visor, medium tiniting of the main visor and no tinting of the pinlock visor, or some other combination. Does anyone have any advice on this - I'm sure I'm not the first person in this situation! :-) Many thanks |
I recomend getting a full race tint visor with pinlock.
You can then take the clear insert out of your clear visor and put it into the tinted one should you get fogging. |

But is it not better to get a 2nd insert - Is it good for the inserts to keep taking them off & on? Whereas changing visors on a Shoei is dead easy when you know how. |

That's the big advantage of pinlock over the stick on types - they can be removed. I suppose if you swap it constantly it may loose some of its sealing qualities but but you don't often need a pinlock in dry warm weather. I have a black visor without pinlock, a clear visor and a tinted legal visor - which takes the clear pinlock system - works for me. |
I've got a clear visor for my shoei with a clear pinlock also got a tinted pinlock and a black visor. covers all eventualalities

You could get a legal tinted visor and darker insert to stay on the right side of the law. Otherwise, just get whatever tint you think looks coolest and a clear insert. You can add pinlock posts to visors that don't already have them.

I've got a clear visor with a clear pinlock. I've got a yellow tint pinlock for use in the clear visor on those over cast days / when its raining. It really does improve visability. Also a iridium race tint visor for when its really sunny.
If I have the iridium visor on then I carry the clear one with one of the pinlocks on it in a pouch under my jacket. |
Had a full tint with a clear pinlock. Bit knackered now
