Getting tyres in europe?
Has anyone done this before and is it similar to the UK level of service?
Cheers |
I think TSM did get a new tyre on his road trip to Portugal. Maybe PM him if he doesnt see this thread.
As for levels of service, i think europe beats this country for customer service all over the place not just in the bike sector. |
In belgium most tyre places like ytou to book in in advance (as do garges, had to wait 3 weeks to get my bike in for a service, have been quoted 6 weeks wait for a cage service, wtf!), but then everything in Belgium seems to have to be done a certain way. I'm sure if you were touring through and stopped at a tyre palce they may be able to fit you in.

I would not unless i realy had to and understood the places i was going to & the language, trying to get tires in europe. They tend to be a little more expensive. |
I had to get a tyre for a Peugeot 206 in Portugal last year. No problems at all, just like popping into your local Kwik-fit, except for a slight language barrier!
I didn't see any bike tyres though, and not many big bikes in general Everyone seems to ride scooters. |
I managed to avoid it again this year by accidently choosing an everlasting tyre  so little help. But I think it depends where you go. I have been with a few people who have had to get next day service for tyres to come in.
Possibly one thing to do is do a search for a chain in the place you are likely to be going and take a list. This is what I would do next time as riding around loads of places this year I didnt see many bike places let alone bike tyre places so there likely to be tucked away on the edges of cities I guess. If you have GPS you could put a list in which would be a great help. Or get a list of Suzuki dealers and call the nearest one to you who would direct you to a dealer. That was going to be my plan (except not Suzuki) as I have a dealer list with me. Remember in most organisations in most countries someone will speak a little english. The best option is fit a brand new TBH. Are you going to be doing over 4k? |
Should be no probs except language!
May not get the tyres you want though...especially in a hurry |
