MOT - Speedo not working, will it fail?
Just a quick question.
Bike is due an MOT next month and the Speedo is not working on it. My question is, will it fail on that? Cheers, Martin |
Yes. If you cant fix it by then, get a small cycle speedo and stick it on the dash and set it up, as a temp fix.

I'm not sure if having a working speedo is a requirement. Certainly, not having a speedo at all is permissible. Anyhow, how are they going to tell if it's wkring or not? They don't road test them - the vehicle may be dangerous, after all.

Agreed, watched my MOT - no road test so they won't know. Get it fixed at your convenience.

It is not a requirement of the MOT as far as I can tell, but I'd be looking to fix it regardless of the MOT simply because it's not all that smart to be riding without one. It is also illigal not to have one so you could pass the MOT and then be booked by the poice as you left IIRC:

Speedo on the Corsa stopped working year ago. Pain the ass to sort it out..
Another thing on the "to do" list... It passed a few MOT's with no issues. |

I am going to get it fixed, but don't know if I can get it done in time for the MOT. Cheers again.... |

It may be that the magnetic sensor thingy in the front wheel hub has disintegrated. take the front wheel off and have a look. Its like a spacer with four lugs on it. sometimes they get brittle with age and crumble then the speedo stops working. The genuine suzuki part is only about £12 and a doddle to fit.
worth a look. You dont have to have a speedo for an MOT, but I if you do have one, it must work. . |
