Help reconnecting the loom after ripping out alarm?
I have an SV650SY (2000) model which I believe developed a short in the Datatool alarm causing the battery to cook and a number of fuses to blow, leaving me with no power.
I've cut the alarm out, it was melted to ****, but now I'm left with an immobilized bike and about 8 wires which I need to reconnect. 2 are indicators, one's for the starter motor, etc. I have lights and indicators, just nothing when thumbing the starter. I can connect the starter motor wire to the 12v live wire, but then the starter motor will try to turn even with the ignition off. Any ideas how to reconnect the loom, or is it a shop job, in which case how much am I looking at? If anyone has access to the SV service manual, I'd appreciate a link to section 8? Thanks for reading. |

I've removed a datatool alarm before and didn't need a wiring diagram. Trace each alarm wire back into the main loom and take it from there, once all the binding tape is removed it's really obvious what needs reconnecting and what needs removing. It's much easier and quicker than trying to figure out what each of the 8 black wires are connected to and figuring out which ones to join together. Neater too as you end up with a standard loom again. Good luch anyway cheers Stewart |
If push comes to shove and you need a complete loom, I've got one "surplus to requirments"
