4K service
 

Just booked into Cupar for the 4K service, £145 inc vat and parts. :(
Does this sound ok? Has anyone else had work done here :?:
While its getting done I'm getting to play on a VStrom :D :riding: but only for 1/2 hr :cry: then its a SV650 nekid for the rest of the morning :D . It will be interesting to see the difference in the riding positions / handling between it and mine. :smt026

Yes i know i should be servicing it myself but:
1. I want to maintain the warranty :thumbsup:
2. I dont know what's involved or how to do it #-o :oops:
3. Its a nice run up to cupar and I get to play on other bikes \:D/

£145 does seem like a lot but bike servicing in general is pricey compared to cars. Also you don't get cold and wet in a car, have a much better chance of surviving a serious crash, you can chat to passengers and listen to the radio etc etc... Sorry , where was I? Yeah, £145 is about right.

As for doing it yourself, ******** to that! Why make an amateurish hash of something you can get a trained professional to do for you? Same applies to flying, cooking and cleaning.

I had the unfaired SV650 when I was in for a service, be interested to see what you think. For my money it was totally crap, like a jumped up CG125. Good for a city commute but that's about it. Engine sounded and felt different too but that's probably my imagination. Rather have a Hornet :shock:

Enjoy the trip, no Police helicopter in Fife...

I had mine done just the other week and they charged me £165 all in, so that would seem OK. It's not such a small service as you might have expected.

Just coughed up £166 for my 4k service, which included a new air filter, so your quote sounds about right

I've hurt my neck and back so I emailed asking for a faired bike as an unfaired will be pretty painful at speed, but they said they had no faired courtesy bikes. How come you are getting a VStrom? Had they run out of courtesy bikes? Is it a demonstrator?

Had the unfaired SV last time and didn't think it was that bad, but I wouldn't buy one and was happy to get mine back. Shorter wheelbase and gearing and higher bars mean it can be a bit of a hooligan machine if pushed.

Played on the gsxr last time.

Then the sv - red unfaired. It was quite nice actually. Just like the DAS bikes - real easy to manouvre, u-turn blah blah. Much smoother than mine but mines is in to get the snatchy low rev stuff looked at while its being serviced.

I asked them about the 4k and they reckon its a bit overkill so soon after the 600 but there you have it. Warranty and all.

Marc...when you're passing give me a shout as I live just along the road. Could go for a wee hurl.

Colin the VStrom is a demo, hence why i'm only getting it for 1/2 hr (hope to talk them into longer on the day. Colin let me know how you go with your service, good bad etc.

Stuart The service is 9am on Sat 30th Sept if you fancy a hurl let me know nearer the time, either that or I can come to yours for bacon butties , I'm sure you can talk the wife into making a fry up :wink:

9 am sat morning...I'll probably be getting home from the boozer that early.

If I'm no there then haud oan and the wife can look after you. She's a crap cook though ( @8*&^**"@#~*&.... just had to dodge a flying plate of strawberries there :twisted: )

what it is with modern women being crap in the kitchen, (well for what its intended for) :oops: My other half can burn water, she tried to boil an egg once and let it boil dry it exploded and I spent 3 hours scraping egg out of the cooker hood filter, If it doesn't arrive in a M&S box that fits in the microwave shes stuffed ](*,) her sister is even worse :!: The thing is their mum was a great cook / baker. sometimes the apple does fall far from the tree. :-k
