Hugger question
Right, the thorny issue of rear huggers! Don't know much about them.
I'm wanting to fit one to my S K6 (once I pick it up) as so to protect the rear shock from road crud. Suzi OEM is too expensive. Powerbronze stuff is tat (so I've gathered from the forum here). Comes down to either Skidmarx, Pyramid or Red Fox. Which do people recommend? There is not much in it cost wise. Doing a google search, other bike forums (Hornet, VFR, Fazer) seem to recommend Pyramid. I'm after a simple plain black one, not carbon. Thanks in advance for your help |
Got Red fox.
Does job - Looks good. |
Plus with Red Fox you get a 10% discount if you mention that you are an SV650.org member. :D

I fitted a pyramid hugger and the rubber pads that take up the slack in the clamp are not stuck on with heat-resistant adhesive. Since the swing arm gets warm the net result is a hugger that moves and rubs the tyre as the pads squeaze themselves out. Nice.
I have no idea why pyramid have used a two piece clamp unless they have been lazy and are using an existing design. A single piece would be much better and cheaper too. I have sort of solved it by stacking the pads on top of each other, but I intend to get a one piece bracket made by a local fabricator to use the fixing point for the rear brake line clip. The hugger itself is pretty good though. |
I think the Red Fox has a modified design to avoid fouling the toolbox on the K6.
|
Red Fox looks good - except I want a colour matched to my K6 Red as I am planning on a colour-matched undertray at some point too.
Kind of limits the options tho David |
The modified version clears the toolbox on the K5 (they only remodelled it when I pointed out the problem to them on the original), so I would imagine it fits a K6.

Just bought a pyramid one and generally pleased with it, though would have been nice if they'd have used the existing bolt holes on the right of the swingarm.
The thing I like about pyramid is the hugger extends right down below the swingarm to keep the bottom shock linkage from getting sprayed with crud. |

in my experience of huggers the road **** gets thrown over the top of the hugger thus it dont really do anything but add style if you like that sort of thing.
