radiator resevoir cap.......

Hi all. Just bought some new anti-freeze, looked in the Haynes, started going through each proceedure, lifted tank, went to take off the 'resevoir cap' (not to be confused with radiator cap) and there isn't one there !!!!

If there isn't one there what effect will this have on the bike ??? What will the coolant be doing or not doing cause the cap is missing ??

I'm gonna order one from the dealer on Friday so if somebody wants to sell one feel free to pm me !!!

cheers
Ash

Erm, if the coolant gets hot, it'll bubble and spill out the top and go all over your bike, like my hornets did. Probably something to do with pressure too. How long have you been riding the bike around with none on? The curvy has a security type screw on it to stop anyone easily walking away with it

I've been riding around for a year and a half without one. It's not the radiator cap. Just looks like a cap that pushes into a tube, offside under tank next to air filter.

 i could'nt seem to get mine off(perhaps the bike did not reconise me as the owner?)

Oooooh that one!

Crikey thought you meant the one on the radiator. It won't have done any damage since your bike is still running anyway. The cap will probably stop any crap from getting in though.

It won't matter, it's not a pressure cap.

If you look just below the neck you'll see the overflow tube coming out of the reservoir tank, this is open to atmosphere so missing the cap won't matter. You could put a bit of foil or similar over the neck so you don't drop anything in there if you like.

If it was the radiator cap it would be different.

What Sid said. Over time you may loose a little fluid through evaporation but the tank is an odd shape so most gas would (i'm guessing here) condense on the side before wafting out the open neck.

As long as your fluid levels are between the upper and lower marks it should not be a big deal.

Give us a clue Hovi5, what did you undo? If it was the main radiator cap, after taking out the locking screw, you turn it - let go - push down and turn it further. If it's the reservoir/expansion bottle top it is a push fit.

What we need is an icon (seen it on another forum) that says RTFM.

Here it is!
