Shame, it contained some interesting discussion. Controversial, yes - and heated, yes - but it was thought provoking stuff on which people are bound to have strong views, and I'm disappointed that it has been deleted.

In fact I think it was a wrong decision.

I do too Ed but hey.. there is a greater power and we mere mortals aren't allowed too much freedom of speech!!

Mods... you could have asked for a vote to see if we wanted it deleted....??

Filipe M. 24-10-06 08:29 PM

What they said... it was getting pretty heated up, but deleting it wasn't really the best option (IMHO, of course). It'll only make things worse, creating some sort of taboo around the subject, which is the exact opposite of what's needed here. Again, IMHO, there have been better candidates for deletion lately.

Shame because it was, aside from your negativity and criticisms of people who dared to disagree with you, a good place to raise the real issues.

For starters, the candle site is aimed at law enforcement, ISPs, governments, etc. Now IWF have just released their stats for 10 years - the child pornography on uk hosted sites has dropped from 18% to 0.2%. Im just amazed at how they achieved all of that before 700,000 people clicked a link.

But what I am trying to convey to you is that what is in the public domain is a drop in the ocean to what is in the private domain. It is in the private domain the worst images of abuse reside, and where the abusers lurk. Cleaning up the public domain achieves very little in reality for abused children - because it is a minority of children involved.

What I tried to do is what you wanted - raise peoples awareness of a lot of related issues surrounding this which can be constructively tackled and people can do something real to help change and stop the abuse in the first place. I dont see why trying to raise that issue should get so much flak tbh if your aim was to raise awareness which is what I was trying to do.

Thanks Ed for taking the effort which resulted in the thread being resurrected.

I imagine it's run it's course now (not that I'm stopping anyone from posting in it!) But I much prefer the chance to read it to the end and for it to remain on record rather than having it deleted).

I found the points raised in it quite shocking, and I thank all the contributors for that.
