Dead dogs and old fire engines
Some random pics from my ride out to RAF Scampton today.
http://upload4.postimage.org/1624880/Scampton003.jpg A Gnat. http://upload4.postimage.org/1624886/Scampton004.jpg Merv (the guide) said you can sometimes get a peep in the Red Arrows hanger, sadly there was no one about and the hanger all locked up. http://upload4.postimage.org/1624905/Scampton009.jpg Green Goddesses, a whole hanger full of them. (sorry about the crap pic, it was rather dark and I was struggling to hold the camera steady with such a slow shutter speed). All of these where being shipped abroad. Apparently all of them have less that 2000 miles on the clock. http://upload4.postimage.org/1624929/Scampton011.jpg The grave of Guy Gibson's dog. |
I was working in RAF leuchars a few weeks back and to get to where we were working we had to cross the main runway, and if there were planes taking off or landing you had to wait at the red light for them to go past. The noise was absolutely deafening
I got some vids on my phone of them taking off, the acceleration is amazing. 8) Id post the vids but am not sure how because there a funny file type  I also got this photo of me "riding the bomb"  (its actually a fuel tank, but I tell everyone its a bomb) http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../DSC002361.jpg |

Red Arrows... hooligans ;)
A couple of years ago I was at Headcorn Aerodrome getting a few hours in on my PPL. The day's NOTAMS indicated that the Red Arrows would be operating at Biggin Hill that afternoon. So I jumped in my little Cessna 172, and rolled down runway 29... on my take off climb, just passing 800', six Red Arrows shot past my nose, left to right, no further than 200 yards away. No radio calls, nothing, and all within 1.5 miles of the runway centre. I sat there in awe at the sight, just thinking "Coooool". It was only later that I realised that they could have easily smashed straight into me if the controller they were talking to wasn't being alert. |
what a great name for a black lab....
 |
Yep. Don't think you would be calling that dog at 3am in Bradford!
Get your head blown off! I have a black collie and a friend of my parents suggested I called it blacky. Silence filled that room! :P |
IN a similar theme, here are some photos from Coventry air museum last Sunday:
A Vulcan bomber, main nuclear deterrent in the early years of the cold war for Britain as you all know: http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/11/31616173348.jpg And then me and my mate got to go and sit in the minute pilot and copilot seats! Bit of a dream come true for us! http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/11/31616173345.jpg |
