Life in the colonies

I am not sure whether to laugh or be concerned... http://www.economist.com.na/27%20Oct...d/27-10-01.htm

i'm really concerned - i can't believe you read the economist! :P
what an odd story, i think alot of people feel like they need some kind of primitive 'gang/pack' instinct, and something/one to fight against. (ie bikers v cars;))
i stumbled across the 'positive news' the other day. All cheerful news, and you don't even need to pay for it

Well shouldn't they just give everything back that they stole in the first place?

A very strange story. Surely we can't be far away from the first corporate vandalism case where some firm deliberately starts a negative viral email campaign like this.

It's hard to know what it's really like in SA. Some claim that the whites are being targetted specifically when it comes to crime then others say crime is just bad everywhere. I've spoken over the internet to white South Africans and some say it is bad and they feel their way of life is under threat whilst others say it's not as bad as what some people would have me believe. A mate of mine his uncle left SA a few years ago and came back to NI because things were bad and he didn't want to be there anymore. He owned a farm there IIRC. It's a sign of the times when someone flees to Northern Ireland to get away from violence!

This is just me an outsider looking in. I stand to be corrected/enlightened :)

As a South African I try to keep on top of what's happening back home and get occasional snippets from friends and family. Here's another http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1844616,00.html

I am not sdure if it is better or worse since I left in 1998- it is just different. The focus of crime turned from political to criminal a long time ago and it is getting worse - rule of law seems to have gone out of the window and the ANC government seems to have become as corrupt or more corrupt than the Nationalist government it replaced.
