Leave for a couple of mins & check again - ensure the bike is upright when checking.

If it has lost more than a litre then it MIGHT have done a bit of damage running it low however fingers crossed that you get away with it.

if your bikes on the side stand you wont see any oil, like matt said it needs to be upright.

that seems to have done the trick!! i've only had it upright (off the sidestand) for a few minutes n it's showing at 'low' in the glass. so hopefully a ride home n then check will see it a bit higher up the glass!!

thanks guys

You'll also find, as the winter temperture drops so does the oil level a bit. You should check oil levels when it has been warmed and left to settle

add more until the level is full

mine has been 2 full litres low before with no damage

Check it often. Some engines use oil and run fine doing so but if the level drops below the crucial minimum to maintain oil pressure just once, your engine will expire terminally.Very expensive. The bike needs to be upright, and on level ground, and the oil should be kept between the lines in the sight glass.Get someone to help you hold the bike if needs be,but DO check it.

All good advice, it's been covered before, but do this properly (bike bolt upright, not on a stand) using the sight glass as putting too much oil in has it's own side effects so more is not always better
