is the sv1000s right for me?
 

went out on the sv tonight for a 40 mile burble and found out this bike demands respect :wink:
once from a stand still and once exsiting an island i had the back end spin up and kick out sideways on me (brown trouser moment :roll: ) i find myself having to ride the sv1000 with lots of respect where as with the 650 i think it suits my style better, with the 650 you can be hard on the gas out of bends and islands with ease which is where i find my fun :wink: i find i cant really use the throttle hard on the thou as i feel i am soon going to find myself in lots of trouble :oops:
my style of riding is scratching hard on the throttle most of the time down twisty roads and i am begining to think this is not what the thou is made for :? so am i going to have to calm down and change my riding style so i end up living longer?

You could wait for better grip (warmth and dry) of the summer before you make your decision?

I know what you mean My mate has a Firestorm I borrowed it for a week and loved the power but nearly high sided it on the first corner I came to trying to ride it like my SV. On the twisties I can **** all over him but on a straight I'm left for dead :cry:

You've got what 40bhp more than the SV had, you've gotta ride it differently. I had similar moments with the GSXR which has double the BHP that the SV has, you'll get used to it over time. If you learn to ride the thou you'll find it more rewarding or at least as rewarding as the 650. I had moment where the back would spin up. It was because on the 650 you can pretty much nail the throtle all the time. Where as a bike with more power requires a little more finesse to get the best from it.

I found that on the GSXR that in order to cope with the extra BHP my throttle control has become alot lot better, I'm much smoother on the throttle now and I'm more progressive with it, both rolling on and rolling off.

I also like the challenge that riding a bigger BHP bike gives, when I get it right its much more rewarding. I appreciate that though not everybodies the same. Wait till its dry and warmed up as if the weather where you are is like the weather here its not ideal for getting used to a new bike.

It took me a good few months before I felt at one with the GSXR.

Kwak, it's a litre twin... They demand respect. I had a Falco after my SV and although I only kept it for 6 months or so, it was all through winter, and I learned how to ride properly. Big twins bite back if you don't ride them properly.

I think you, as I did, will have to go back to school and start from scratch, learning what you can and can't do with your bike. The first weekend I had the Falco it was on the back wheel more times than I care to remember :lol:

Take it easy, re-educate yourself (then get a litre IL4 and have the best of both worlds :wink: )

Kwak zzr maybe if you stopped playing with the d*ldo :shock: and concentrate on work on your finess regards your wrist action :shock: as the good man Fizz said....hmm.hold on a sec :? :wink:

With time you'll enjoy it more. You'll still miss the 650 though as there is indeed something to be said for being able to crack the throttle open hard on a smaller bike. It's all relative obviously but the smaller bikes do give a bigger grin when it comes to cracking the throttle open hard without worrying too much about ending up in a field or "highside City"

thanks for all your reply's you all speak what i want to hear :wink: but every corner i ride i keep thinking "my 650 felt loads better than this" :? you cant take it away from the big v twin its an awsome bike and the twin microns are one of the best noises ive herd but i'm not really intrested in going fast in a straight line (been there done that) it bores me to tears :cry: i like corners! tight ones, hair pins, big sweepers! i just hope that as i learn to be at one with the big V twin it goes where i point it.
