fixing a rear brake pedal
 

can i just bend it back to shape or will it snap? whats the best way to do it?

I tried to bend mine and it snapped. Apparently if you heat the alloy it becomes more pliable. I'd wait until someone backs this up though. I now have a "bolt mod" on the pedal. 8)

what you mean bolt mod?

I snapped the bit your foot touches clean off so drilled a hole in the remaining alloy and put a bolt through it. I keep meaning to buy a new pedal but the mods fine and easy to change if I drop the bike again.

oh you did the gear change pedal, yea i can see how the bolt would work but i cant do that with the brake pedal.

My brake pedals also snapped and I don't know whether to buy a new one or to got for the bolt mod.

Had the bolt mod on my brake pedal for nearly two years now.I was going to get a new one,but I find I prefere it as it is.The rear brake pedal is now a bit shorter,and the bolt means there is a bit less pedal to step on,so there is less chance of overclubbing the rear brake.I don't use much rear brake anyway,and find this "mod"quite good.

If it's still (comfortably) useable as is and doesn't look horrendous, I'd leave it. If not, try bending it back- if it snaps you've not lost anything and you can always use the nut and bolt temporary fix. I managed to bend it back after the first time it got damaged (needed the help of a bodybuilding friend and my weight to hold the bike down, mind!) second time it hit the deck it snapped, so I did the nut and bold fix. Rode with that for about a year and it's fine- perfectly comfortable and if you do a tidy job of it (sand down edges, use several nuts on the bot, etc.) it doesn't look to bad, either.

I've since refitted a standard one, which actually took longer to get used to than using the snapped one had!
