Pitting on front forks?
 

Hey guys,
I'd like to give my front forks a really good clean up because of the pitting (which is more or less standard with the Curvy SV's....)

Whats the best and easiest way of doing this? I have also seen on Ebay that there are Fork Covers? Anyone ever used these? Pro's? Con's?

I've used scrunched up tin foil 8) sound funny but with a little WD40 it will flat back any high spots of pitting and stop the seal popping...until the next rain, then it'll all come back :roll: keep on top of it :wink:

I assume your talking about the fork lowers?

Easy peasy...................strip and polish them. Use nitromors to strip off the laquer ( Wear Gloves...........I didn't and it BURNS!) Then elbow grease and solvol aotosol will bring them up if you don't have the proper polishing wheel like I do. With a bit of time and effort they can look like this.

At this time of year we just wipe them over with WD40 and they stay looking good.

No, I didn't use the mousse, I used the Nitromors that comes in the green tin, as you can apply that with a brush and be careful where it goes.

You can use autosol, but you can buy drill mops and polishing compounds from these people..they are who I get my stuff from.

They have a basic set for sale at £10. All you need is a flexible drive which will run off a drill.

And yes, our bike has custom seats :D

My bad :oops: I thought you meant pitting on the inner tubes not the lacquer flaking of of the lowers :oops:

You can get the Nitromors in any hardware store, should only need the small tin. This will take you to the budget polishing kit. You can buy online, nice and easy.

It will come with instructions as to which compounds and mops to use in which order. That will fit directly into a hand electric drill too, but a flexible drive just makes it a bit easier. We took out the front wheel, which made life a lot easier, but you can do it with the wheel in place, just not the inside of the forks.

Ours are the comfort seats, which means you have to send the seats off.

WOW!!! Them forks are nice! I'd probably do it if I wasnt upgrading to a GIXER 750 K4 front end, but they do look awesome! 8)
