Little s**ts tried to break into my garage.
 

I heard a noise out front and went straight out to be confronted with this:

Fortunately they didn't take anything from what I can tell but they royally f**ked up the door, we have manage to secure the garage but not in a way that it is still usable and it is going to be a week or so before a new door can be fitted. I am now having to keep the bike outside so I can still use it, thing is it is insured in the garage, should I tell my insurance co that for a week it will be outside? would you or would you not bother?

Tell the insurance co. Mine say that I pay quadruple if it's stolen within a mile from the house, and it's not in the garage!

Also, tell the house insurance company, you never know, might be able to claim for the door fixing ;)

I am just worried they will ask for a wedge o cash for a week.

And the house ins people are paying for a new door.

Easy tip for you fella..

Drill a hole in the floor, add metal holllow tube inside.

Add a deadlock bolt at the bottom :) And if your that worried, add one at the bottom either side as well :)

I'd check the wording of your policy. They usually have a clause that excludes theft cover from outside your garage if within a mile or whatever from your home. Some just have something to the effect of "your bike must usually be stored at this address, in a garage." IE, for more nights a year, than anywhere else, it must be kept there. Now, seeing as for the majority of the term of the policy you've kept it garaged there (and will continue to do so when it's fixed), I'd say you were staying within the terms of the policy if you have the latter.

As to notifying them, at the very least I imagine you'll be looking at a £20 "admin fee" for your honesty. Not saying you shouldn't- it could be a small amount of money to save a lot of aggro.

You could nicely ask a neighbour/mate nearby if you could use their garage for the week?

Also, maybe they trashed your garage to get you to park the bike outside to make it easier to nick later.

So watch out.

Unfortunately they were long gone before I got out of the house. The dead lock thing is a good idea but Unfortunately there is not other way into the garage other than the front.

Ceri JC, I will have a look in my policy but you are probably right.

Grinch, never thought of that. It has a chain and alarm/immobilizer and is covered and parked right by the front window.

Tie a few old tin cans or something to the inside of the cover to make it noisy if someone tries to remove it.
Might keep you awake on windy nights though...

if you look further down the page you can see the door mine, pretty easy to put on with a bit of string and they are safe, you would know when they got in the garage and the bang will scare the s**t out of them believe me its pretty loud

Great but I'd say have 2 set up but not to go off together. The first bang will wake u but our minds are a bit foggy as soon as we're woken, the second will let u know something's up.
