Get Back!! It's a rattler!!!

No- it's not snakes on a bike (well- only when I'm ri---never mind  ), but my lovely is making a rattling sound at around 4000rpm.

I didn't notice it before my off, though it may have been there, and it may be post-incident worry, but should that noise be there? Or should I start investigating further?

It only seems to happen when riding, ie in gear and in any gear. Performance seems OK- no problems getting the bike going etc, so I'm not necessarily convinced it's major.

Any suggestions?

Cheers an all that gubbins

You know your bike. If you're worried, have a poke around.

Only thing that springs to mind would be cam chain & tensioners. But I could be trying to find a needle in a haystack, in the dark, at 20,000ft for all I know :)

LOL! Cheers Baph. That's the thing- I know my bike, but having hardly ridden her before the off, I can't remember if the rattle was there or not.... Oh well. I'll have another consultation with Mr Haynes I spose and go from there. As I said- performance doesn't seem to be a problem and it only happens across a few hundred revs- though I'd rather not have owt in the engine wearing unnecessarily...

Hopefully, if it's easy maintenence a klutz like meself could ititiate a friendly Saturday swearing session with the bike (and that's just looking for tools in the flat).... :D

Well I know my K6 doesn't rattle with close to 13k on the clock.

HTH ;)
