Am I a wrongun for wanting one of these?
 

I need an honest opinion please?

I've been on foot and on the tube for too long since my beloved SV was stolen and I've just about recovered my finances after shelling out for an engagement ring for herself... so now I need to get a new bike before I get married!

I was thinking about another SV but riding my old curvey S used to give me massive back and wristache.

Would I lose the respect of all the other bikers in the world if got one of these? It's had pretty good reviews so far and the more I look at it, the more I like it.

No, I want one as well (not going to get one though cos it's a BMW). I'm guessing the pannier options from the ST fit on the S as well. The belt drive means no more lubing or topping up scottoilers.

The long term CBF1000 in Bike mag with panniers/top box/heated grips is looking tempting in this weather as well.

I think BiKE magazine has an article in there at the moment about a BMW F800S (I think it was, mag isn't to hand). Basically, hard panniers, and power sliding. Lack of chain maintenance. Hmm.

Personally, I have an eye on the K1200R(S) [the sports version]...

It's the ST version in Bike, more upright riding postion due to not having clipons and a slighter bigger fairing.

Why was the last one nicked? What extra precautions would you take to ensure this one isn't.

I'd definitely consider one. If they'd been out when I bought my SV then I may well have got one instead. IMO it doesn't matter what make the bike is if it suits your needs and you find it fun to ride. That's all that counts.

If your curvey S was uncomfortable then you could try a naked SV? That's what I have, due to back problems. then again, why get the same bike again?

I've been keeping an eye on these too. Especially the sport one in yellow 8) (for a BMW).
Just the high purchase price keeping it out of reach :evil:

Positive so far then... I was expecting a bit more of a back-lash against the Beemer!

I've been really thinking hard about another SV, 2nd hand, but I think I need something new and different... no MOT or service costs and a three year warranty make it appealing.

Yeh, I was reading the Bike review last night... it certainly sounds better than the VFR, which they've absolutely slated!

I'm also thinking about the F650 Dakar too but don't fancy knobbly tyres if I'm doing any distance.

My fault the SV got nicked really, I rushed home for the one of the England games in the summer, think it was the Tobago one... didn't put the lock on it, didn't put the cover over it, got home pished at about 2 a.m. and it was gone. There were loads nicked from our street in the summer

I would lock and cover this one everyday, ... I've learnt my lesson there. We have council installed ground anchors in the bike bay in our street, good idea Wandsworth. I've picked up a few tips in my bikeless summer, i.e. put the chain through the anchor and over the seat so they can't hammer it. I'd invest in a top of the range chain and lock too.

Won't bother with an alarm but I'll get a rape alarm rigged up to the cover so it wakes the street up if anyone takes it off. Should get peoples attention if they think there's a rapist about... no one cares about bike or car alarms!

OK here some balance for you,
Elastic band powered (don't believe all the hype, when was the last time you saw a race bike with one ?)
Basic forks (none of the fabled tele/para what not)
Basic brakes
Gnat testicle between SV performance at £1500 more to buy.
Only badge as a BMW (obviously for derision purposes)
And of course anything you fill with petrol under the seat is a scooter :wink:

But biggest of them all is my scout master, slipper wearing (yes he has the tarten ones), summer only use brother has one :shock: :shock:

Oh you'll get some interest for the summer, but more **** taking that's for sure.


I wouldn't have one, too expensive, the finance deal just makes you forget how long you'll be paying for it (you aren't going to get much off), not good enough, it's always tested in the mags outside it's own range, either with bikes costing less or small engine size or something else to give it the edge.

The engine looks good, but of course that's not BMW either and Rotax make some nice lumps.

How's that ?

I a had test ride on one last spring.
I quite liked it, but it was competent rather than exciting.
I went out on the Z1000 the same afternoon. Given that the purchase price was essentially the same, it was no contest.
I guess that's its main problem . £6K gives you a lot of other choices.
