wind blast on motorway
ok..im a newbie to proper bikes and have never been on motorway on a faired bike till today.
I expected it to be wind free.....was only doing 70 and wheather was good. I had to lie down flat on tank to get out of the wind....is this just how it goes....dont feel very in control of the bike when lied down peering over the screen like that.......... or will one of them double bubble screens allow me not to look like im impersinating rossi on the slow lane of motorway. cheers stu |
Re: wind blast on motorway
What do you have? Nakid or Faired.
If you are tall on a Faired mabey you have to get a double bubble screen to try and get the wind above you head, if nakid you could try a small fly screen. Either way it will take time to strengthen up thoes neck mussles, eventualy you will feal fine at 70, i know i can maintain a fair bit more without an issue but its taken time. |
Re: wind blast on motorway
Double bubble screen helps but it'll never stop it completely, you get used to it after a while. Relaxing is the best way to battle the wind!!:)

Re: wind blast on motorway
If you've got a curvy S I can't recommend a Fabrri double bubble enough, it should make your journeys a lot more comfortable. About 6 foot myself and find 100+ cruising on motorways fine (well they were autobahns). Still a bit of buffetting but a lot better.

Re: wind blast on motorway
What are you wearing on your legs to make your 'workman's' show when leaning on a bike? Protective, I hope at those speeds!!!
As a new rider, I thought the wind was bad at 70, until I did 95- then I though that was bad- until I did 115! The faster I've been, I find that the more I tolerate the wind at lower speeds- though I have to lie over the tank to get it past 95mph- and I've got a double bubble screen! Traffic makes a difference too- more cars=more slipstreams=more turbulence. On a quiet A24 coming home from the coast on Saturday last was very tolerable-even over 100. The A3 in the morning rush hour is well windy at 80mph plus. My problem is condensation- at that speed, the lid slams shut from the finger space I normally have- I've got an HJC with a nose cover to keep the breath off the visor- even with that and my neckscarf over me cake hole and the vents open, I still mist up the screen in the morning- I must be a right hot steamy type!! ;D Roll on the summer when this doesn't happen (I hope!) You'll get used to bending your arms into a tank lean- I still am- just tuck your elbows in and relax as much as you can- I still lean on the bars a bit too much and it knackers my wrists/hands on longer journeys- bend your arms more and sit more on the foot rests or grip the tank with your knees to take the pressure off your hands. |
