a trip to London - few questions
 

Afternoon,
I'm planning on heading to London for a long weekend in about 6 weeks or so. I'm wondering if anyone can give me a few tips on where to stay in the West End area of the city, a decent hotel at a non-crazy price for a small group of about six people.
I'm also interested to hear if anyone has tips on what's good in the theatre at the moment. I've been told "Wicked" is good viewing, can anyone second that verdict?
Also I'd love to hear about good restaurants nearby, willing to pay handsomely if it's a good experience. Would love to go somewhere like Ramsays' but reckon it's too hard to get a table and sure it's mental money!
Any feedback on the above much appreciated.

Hmm, hotels i cant advise on.
Theatre tho, and you may or may not know off this one, i'd recommend Stones In His Pockets.
Briefly... a hollywood film company descend on a quiet Irish village to do filming. A cast of thousands played by only 2 guys on stage. It'll genuinely make you laugh and cry and is a great experience to see 2 fellas play all the roles.
Restaurants a plenty and your probably right about having to book for a Ramsey joint. But there arecplenty of great high quality restaurants that you dont need to book.

i'd suggest you also link to this post in the Soho Massive section that way all the other Londoners will see it and be able to give you good advice. There was a great restaurant my bro took me and my mum to for her birthday. Real quality and in the heart of theatreland. Bill came to about 400 quid for the 3 of us tho. if thats what youre looking for let me know and i'll find out the name of it.

Try calling The Penn Club. It's not exactly a hotel - more of a hostel - run by The Quakers, so strictly no alcohol else you'll be chucked out. In Bedford Row, near Russell Square. Very quirky, they have the world's best collection of non-matching furniture bequeathed by Quakers gone to glory, but if all you want is somehere to kip and very good value then give them a try.

As for theatre, we sometimes use the official half-price theatre tickets booth in Leicester Square. You can often pick up good tickets for top shows, or take pot luck and see something you've not heard of. Never been disappointed. Have a browse before you go to see which shows they're selling tickets for

You can get some really good deals at good restaurants through Top Table. I ate at the Millenium a couple of weeks ago for £25 for 3 courses inc champagne off the alc. Plenty of choice, would recommend places like Brasserie Roux, some of the other brasseries in Covent Garden, and some old favourites rather than new ones. I wouldn't recommend any of the Conran restaurants - all the ones I've been to lately have suffered from bad service and distinctly average food - they've stooped to trading on the name.

If you want good, cheap eats, Taro (japanese) and Masala Zone (Indian), both in Soho, are outstanding.

And, of course, no trip to London would be complete without a visit to the Soho Massive on Friday night!
