new back tyre advice

my mate just pointed out i need a new back tyre as its squared off (done about 3000 miles) i have road attacks front & back.

as its the first & only tyre i have had i cant compare it to anything.

so do i get another or try somthing new(what) as it seems evry one says differant?

edit i have done 3000 miles & the tyres were put on just b4 i had the bike for the MOT which was new. sorry

Dont replace just because its squared off. at 3000 miles its got plenty of life left. Expect something 5k+

As for replacing, if you are happy with the tyre, then stay with it. When you come to replace the front, then change for something different, then you will notice a difference.

My personal preference is for Z6's (until I get some decent reviews of the 2CT's). But then, it's just that, a personal preference.

I also wouldn't change your rear, change your front to something new if you want to experiment, then change the back either at the same time or after the front.

That way the risk is minimised about the difference in tread pattern etc.

As a rough guide, I got around 7-8k out of my last Z6 rear. The new one has been on for about a week now. The front might be getting changed at the end of the month, we'll have to see how things go.

If your tyre has squared off after 3000 miles maybe you should think about a more suitable tyre for the kind of riding you do.A Z6 lasts a lot longer than that and is no bad tyre for all kinds of use.It keeps its shape well for higher mileage too.

hovi5 you need to go around corners more and use up the edges.

Whoa! you've got a barely legal sport touring tyre at 3k?

I got my D220's changed at 7500miles with 2mm left on the back. Went for Road attacks but it's not cheap as I thought if that's the life span.

I don't know but it obviously wears out your tyre very quickly. What I mean is that a harder wearing tyre might be more suitable for you.
