image management software recomendations
As this forum seems to be also an IT professionals hiding place, I am in the market for some image management software and looking for recommedations.
Must be easy to manage by the end users. Allow the users to be members of groups and to store their images in a manner that will allow them to securely index and publish their images. Low resolution thumbnails must be automaticlly published with the ability to then select the high resolution image. simple manipulation such as highlighting, redlining etc must be available with audit trails and workflow. Database schema must be published and support for all common image types to be available, ie, tif, gif, jpg, png, pdf. Has anyone got any recommendations. ideally web based. Database to be oracle and must only be used for metadata only |
Re: image management software recomendations
google picasa is free and pretty good.
http://www.flickr.com/ allows free online hosting and has thumbnail previews/albums etc. Its pretty good. If your on a mac i just use the .mac service - a little expensive but good. -not particularly helpful i'm afraid |
Re: image management software recomendations
We currently use Acdsee at work on loads of pcs but it generates loads of network traffic with the ammount of images we have. Only problem it seems to have is it does not support a networked database as its backend so all computers have to go and generate their own thumbs and also the db sometimes crashes when its gets several gigs in size, but clearing it out is not a biggy for us anyway. If anyone could also come up with a better package that is like Acdsee, it must have IPTC/EXIF editing capabilities i would be intrested.
