Curious Noob
My name is Rob, I'm a 20yr old student studying Mining Engineering down in Cornwall. About to do my bike test and really love my v-twin so am looking at getting an SV650.
A few questions from browsing this site: a) What is the difference between 'pointys' and 'curveys'?? b) How much SV can I get for about £1500 if anything?? c) What is the riding position like for a 6'2" 18stone lad?? Think thats about it, look forward to your replies. Rob. |
Re: Curious Noob
welcome to the show
curveys are up tp 2002 & have carbs & pointys 2002+ fuel injected. £1500 should get you a nice curvy. dunno about 6" 2 or 18 stone http://www.sv650.org/ click on FAQs & then What are the differences in the models over the years |
Re: Curious Noob
A) Curveys are the good looking ones..........Pointy, not so much! ;)
Welcome to the Org. :smt040 |

Re: Curious Noob
Its got to be said at 6ft 2 and 18stone i reckon the riding position will be a pain.
Iam 6ft just and 13stone and feel iam maybe only slightly on the big side for it. My height is in my legs which gives me the trouble |
Re: Curious Noob
Ow do n welcome.
I used to be 17 stone and still am 6'3" i found it no problems what so ever, even rode all the way down to magny cours on it, Pigbunk will be along in a minute and hes a monster :smt040 He's also now known as bear  |
Re: Curious Noob
I am 6'2" and weigh a few stone less than you, but the bike is rideable, just dont expect sports bike performance!
I would put change forks/oil or whatever as a priority because at my weight the bike is already not ideal and you have an extra 3.5 stone on me. That said if your new to bikes it wont be so bad, as you wont know its an issue. Remember the bike is designed for somene with a ballpark weight of 10 stone. If you get an 'S' then it may take a thousand miles to get used to it, but you should be fine. As Cuffy said....bear has the answers..... |
Re: Curious Noob
Brilliant, thanks for the info. I've been looking and seems like a decent condition curvy can be had for about £1200.
Any advice on how forgiving they are to ride?? I'm going to be putting a fair few miles on her, got a meet in wales in july so thats 400miles each way + about 250-400 over the weekend. |
