Just bought an SV650Sport
 

:thumright: Afternoon all, I bought a nice new SV650Sport.

I passed my test 2 weeks ago after a abit of DAS and i was assured it was an ideal first bike.

Its a very late 2006 (K6 does that make it?) was registered on december 17th and is on a 56 plate but was in a window display so unused. Its has full fairings and seat cowl, alond with a few other parts like rear hugger etc.

Seems like a damn informative forum for someone who knows almost nothing like me so i will stick around :)

Need to get bedding it in now :( I did 250 miles this weekend so need to get another 250 and get the first service booked so i can ride it properly :(

My 1st bit of advice would be to strip the lowers off and/or get Crash Bungs/Framesliders, whatever you want to call them.

One reason for this is that I think lowers are a bad look for the SV :P, but more importantly, you probably love them.

Its a sad fact that as a new rider you are likely to have that bike on its side at some point - I did it 4 days after picking up my new K6 red bike (no lowers).

I then did it again 2 weeks later and had a more serious issue 3 months later.

Probably not a popular piece of advice, but I would take em off and stick them in the back of the garage/shed/loft or whaterver and put em back on in 6 months or so.

Just losing your balance and lowering the bike to the floor could scuff those lowers.

Thanks for the welcome, I dont think i will be taking the lower fairings off for starters i would know how, i will be extra extra careful though. I would be tempted to say i cant see me dropping it but that would be just tempting fate.

Its identical to the one pictured below in looks and colour

Welcome to the org. I would get some crash bungs, R&G get good reviews, just in case you should need them its well worth it even as an insurance against unforseen happenings, it doesn't matter how careful you are, you cant account for others. Also if you intend to ride in the rain a fender extender is worth getting, stops the water getting to the front plug (normal SV problem). That said enjoy the ride :smt039

Yeah my partners dad recommended a front fender extension jobbie. For now though i think i wont be riding in the rain unless i was very unlucky and got caught out in it.

Welcome to the mad house.

Dont feed the locals, and ignore Hovis, he has some fascination with the colour yellow.

Again, crash bungs are a must. They won't save everything, but I've recently thrown my bike down the road at 40mph. Snapped brake pedal & a bent crash bung. I rode it home no worries. Well worth the cost IMO.

Also, re the fender extender. I bought one from a dealership. Something like £18. Well, that was a waste of £18. I bought it before Winter, expecting to fit it to my K6 sharpish. I never got around to it. I've ridden in snow & ice & all sorts (note: Don't try overtaking on the A5 going up a hill in the snow, it doesn't work). The K6's have a crap flap just below the radiator that saves the front plug from everything that I've encountered so far. That includes riding through a 2ft wave caused by a passing White Van Man (WVM) and riding along the beach in the water (way :cool:).

Anyhow, what you do with it, is up to you & your bank manager, so pay no attention to me in particular :thumbsup:

Crash bungs are a must if only for peace of mind.

I got the R&G which although expensive for the SV with lower fairing, you don't have to cut the fairing like some others and they look the mutts.

Been riding 3 months now and touch wood, I ain't dropped it yet but I probably will!!!!

Theres those that have and those that are going to.....i think thats how the saying goes.....i just hope iam going relatively slowly or not at all if/when i do.

Enjoy the bike matey.. I've just got mine and it gets better and better.. Fitted my fender extender today, if you do fit one then don't try and do a short cut like I did, you need to take the mudguard off completely! 1st attempt got glue everywhere!
