Chains etc ?? help

'm a relative (complete) amature when it comes to bikes.

Yesterday i had a quick look at my chain tension play is normal, but i noticed the chain is touching a rubber pad ontop of the swing arm bit.

Is that normal I.e the rubber bit is there for the chain to run along, or should the chain be touching nothing at all?

You have a rubber pad on top of the swing arm?

My chain touches the swingarm a little when it's not under load. Under load it's clear though.

There's also a lot of build up fling there too, all helps. Had to scrape gunk out of my front srpoket cover last weekend. Damn it was messy.

Ahh great thats a relief.

Baph, i think/assume the rubber pad running along the top of the swing arm is to stop the chain having metal on metal contact? As long as its normal thats all that bother me.

All my previous cars have fallen to bits, so things that seem abnormal worry me and i like to get them sorted :smt045

Most bikes have a black plastic strip at the very start of the swing arm, don't worry about it just keep an eye on the chain tension and chain condition in the normal way;)
