Tidying up the fur on the forks

My only complaint about my SK2 is the forks and how the lacquer gets all furry looking.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do. I thought getting some wet/dry sandpaper on it and then coating it with a good lacquer. Any advice on what to coat it with?

I recon I can do a pretty good job at masking it and doing the work with the forks in place.

wd40 is good for removing it, but acf-50 is amazing! most recommend it just for coating metal for protection (which it does very well) however using it to get rid of fur/rust also works :)

Cheers both! I don't think I want to go through the hassle of stripping everything down and I'm not really into the polished look although it's a brilliant job in the pic.

What sort of stuff is acf-50 and where do you get it from.

its just an oil, but it really sticks to your bike, unlike wd40, and will stop it from rusting. It sticks on so well it takes a proper scrub after winter to take it off, but underneath the bike will be perfect! Its an **** to apply- but worth it :)
busters sell it
and here

You've convinced me. I will get some and treat all areas but after you apply it, does it make things look better as well by actually removing the corrosion? Sounds like great stuff.

Buff them down with some GarryFlex blocks and get the lacquered properly.

I took your advice and did the job. Not a paint shop professional job but hey I'm not a paintshop pro ;) anyway compaired to the way they looked before I'm chuffed to bits :smt045

I'm just glad they weren't as bad as plowsie's ;) sorry plowsie but just a little elbow grease and Halfords clear lacquer and it's done.

Just thought I'd share the befores and afters.

I take it you used the blocks then, good ain't they. I'll get round to lacquering mine at somepoint as I have 2 sets to do, though I'm also thinking about spraying them.
