Rear number plate light
I have just been told by an MOT center that having a seprate rear number plate light is a legal requirement but not part of the mot test. I taking it that this is correct so has anyone ever been pulled for not having the light and does anyone know the punishment. I'm gussing that it is just a rectification notice of whatever they are called.

Re: Rear number plate light
I didn't think it had to be separte, else all those bikes that have a white section on there read tail light that shines down would not pass. I know I have it on one of my SV's and it passed the MOT with it.

Re: Rear number plate light
The MOT guy was correct. A numberplate light is a legal requirement, but is not required to pass an MOT.
Plod will get pretty wound up if they can't see your numberplate at night, especially if you're above the speed limit at the time. |
Re: Rear number plate light
The plate on my trailer (Erde) is illuminated in the way that Grinch has described, and so are most caravans. Although not subject to the MOT test, most are sold that way direct from the manufacturer.

Re: Rear number plate light
The law in black & white specifies it must be a seperate light. However, so long as the numberplate is illuminated, I don't thing the cops would really care.
