What bodged repairs have you done?
The throttle cable snapped on my van the other day and i manged to fix it with a electrical terminal block and a couple of washers. So this got me thinking of other things that i'd done like that such as plugging up a hole in the petrol tank of my 125 after an off with some chewing gum.
So any bodges like that as i think we've probably all done the cable tie/ gaffer tape reapirs at some point! (Mods i've put this in IB as it's not strictly bike related) |
Re: What bodged repairs have you done?
I once rivetted a headlamp unit into my MR2 the night before I sold it. (Well, obviously my mate did, as you know I am mechanically inept). We'd taken it apart to change a bulb or something and forgot to put some important fixings back in - rivets were quicker

As seen before: Home Made Fenda Extenda, made outside a french supermarket in the Vosges from products purchased within.

Re: What bodged repairs have you done?
THe output bearing on my on the gearbox of my old Chevette was wedged in with bits of coke can.
I did eventually make good and stick a new (reconditioned) gearbox in it. Also the front part of the gear lever snapped on my plag (C50) when I was 16. I didn't have enough money to replace it so I hacksawed the pedal bit of the remaining back part, drilled a hole in it, stuck a bolt through it (wrapped in gaffer tape) and presto it now had a "proper" motorbike gearshift. |

Re: What bodged repairs have you done?
Many years ago I had a Rover 600 as a company car and a few weeks before it had to go back I caught the wing mirror on the wall at my house. Needless to it smashed to bits. Found out the price of a new one (£180!!!!!) so me and a friend fixed it back together with some bumper plastic repair. Electric tape and speaker wire were used for the inards. We then sanded it down and covered it in boot polish to hide the repair lines.
It did pass the inspection and saved me a pretty penny. My favourite bodge though has to be on a old viva (1976 I think) I had as a first car. if you went above fifty miles an hour it would leak in engine fumes through the heating vents. So we taped hover hose to the vents and opened the windows at put them outide at speed!! |
