London to Southampton

Hi Guys, I'm going paintballing for my bro's stag do thing on saturday in Southampton, and was going to ride there, i'm coming from Bexley and I gotta be there by 8.30am :monkey: Me bro reckons it takes him about 1.5 hours (dubious) in the car so was thinking of leaving about 6.30am :smt015Just wondering if anyones done this ride before, how long it'll take and if its realistic (i'll be riding back in the evening) It seems like a long way to go just for a day... AA tells me its 107 miles and its mostly motorways so should be fine...right? i'm NOT a morning person...

Cheers

Chris

It's easy, M25, M3.

It used to take me 1 hour and 20mins in a beaten up old Y reg Polo from Orpington at Junc. 4 when I was at Uni down there. A very easy day trip.

Usually takes me just over an hour to Basingstoke from Catford, but thats in the car and is just over half way there. The hard part is getting onto the M3 once on that should be a breeze, for you prob easier to go M25 then M3

Usually takes me 1.5 to 2 hours on motorway coming from Harrow, NW london, so 1.5 from you sounds about right.

My personal suggestion (And I don't think you're gonna like it being as you aren't a morning person) is get up an hour earlier, make your way to Godalming and take the a286 down as far as Midhurst, then head across on the a272 to Winchester and get from there to Southampton.

Much nicer roads, which'll wake you up a treat and you'll get there refreshed by the 100mph sweepers and lovely countryside!

Of course, you could always take the motorway down and the nice route back up, but think how empty those roads will be before 7am... yumm!!!

Yeah was looking taking a more scenic route, I always get paranoid about speed cameras on motorways I dont know so probably wont be goin too fast anyway, however, i think i'm probably gonna go for the quickest route there and maybe hit the twisties on the way home... :riding:
