Laverda 750ss
Went out today with local Iam group , took a chap out with a Laverda 750ss , never seen one before . Really nice bike , USD forks ,Brembos, quality suspension , went really well & sounds great .
Any one know anything about these ? Link to picture http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gal...000%20%202.jpg Cheers Steve |
Re: Laverda 750ss
Got one :D It's in pieces, awaiting a water pump and an engine rebuild :D Lovely bike, but I think it spent most of it's life awaiting parts :D

Re: Laverda 750ss
I guess that the parts are hard to get , not really a good idea for a day to day bike , however when they are running they are cracking bikes , if I could afford a 2nd weekend bike I would be tempted .
I had to rag my sv650 real hard to match this bike . Cheers Steve |
Re: Laverda 750ss
I had one which I aquired very cheap when it was nearly new.A great bike let down by a poor engine.Parallel twin with little low down power and only about 85 BHP tops IIRC.Even from 12 months old it was desperately unreliable, and when the water pump went and it took 4 months to get the right replacement part it had to go.
I often wondered if you could transplant a proper engine into it(Yamaha TRX?)and make a really good bike, but it was a very different design and would be hard to do. Italian exotica----love it and hate it. |
Re: Laverda 750ss
Had the 650 & 750. They were off the road more than they were on.
When they did work they were fantastic. Good handling & pretty quick. |

Interesting idea on the TRX/TDM engine. Suprised Yamaha didn't run further with the TRX actually - it must have ceased about the time the SV started? They actually had the jump on Suzuki in creating a reasonable priced mid power, character laden little twin. From recollection they corroded even faster than Suzis though :( |

Laverda... Another reason why NOT to buy Italian [-X . |
Re: Laverda 750ss
Woman who sold me my SV had a Laverda 650 before it - same story of horrible reliability.
TRX engine might be more reliable but is vibey piece of crap with only 5 gears. At least think about the TDM motor with the normal crank. TRX handling (one I rode) was worse than my old-skool FZ600 (aircooled), but still didn't like the car-like engine. |
