Key/Ignition Problems
I have had an SV650S for about 6 weeks now, it is my first bike having passed my test back in May. I have so far had no problem with it apart from one annoying trait. Recently I have had problems with being unable to turn the key to either unlock the steering or even to turn it on, it sometimes does not want to move, which is quite embarrassing trying to leave work in a hurry. It does get used in the rain and left in the rain during the day, which I guess is causing the ignition to seize up with muck and rust. I have tried lubricating it but it still causes occasional problems. Is this a common issue for the SV, is it just exposure to rain, or is it a more serious problem?

Re: Key/Ignition Problems
The barrels tend to wear to the user, mine being worn to the use of a left hand (Most righties tend to have trouble turning it). I noticed when I pulled it apart that the teeth didn't sit rignt but when I hold it they do. Plus you need to rememeber there are moving parts in there so its a good idea to put a little WD40 in.
In the worse case a little wiggle normally help when turning. |

Re: Key/Ignition Problems
It seems common, on mine pushing the key slightly forward lets it move around fine.

Re: Key/Ignition Problems
Thank you for the advice. I have been keeping it well and truly lubricated especially after rain and so far it has been working fine once more.
