Gear problems...maybe the rider
Lately I've been having problems when changing gears (mainly 1st to 2nd). Sometimes it'll change no probs at all and others I'll either pop it into neutral instead of 2nd or I'll have to fight to get it out of 1st and into 2nd.
I'm thinking it could be me as it doesnt happend all of the time but then hw could it be me when I've got the clutch in and can't get it out of 1st and into 2nd? I've adjusted clutch both ends as per Haynes manual, oil is a bit old (maybe six months) with me doing around 2.5k in that time. Any suggestions? PS. Whenever I do change gear it's mostly clunky especially when putting it into 1st. I read a post the other day (I think by Northy) suggesting not moving your foot so much when putting it into 1st and I've tried that but still the same :( |
Re: Gear problems...maybe the rider
I'd try an oil change first and see how it is from there!

Re: Gear problems...maybe the rider
Can old oil really cause me this much hassle? What does the sump bolt washer look like...there isnt one on there at the moment (no leaks though) and the one I ordered doesnt look quite right!

The sump bolt washer is a copper one your suppost to repace it every time you do an oil change! The last one I got from a dealer was wrong and I had to take it back, So I used the old one! Here's the part no. 09168-12002

Re: Gear problems...maybe the rider
might be well off the mark, and shoot me down in flames if it is but...
When I first got the SV, I found my gearchange was really stiff too - I changes the oil and that helped loads, but I think a lot of it was to do with having my left foot too far forward on the footrest and trying to push the lever up in an unnatural way (if that makes sense?) I think I was almost trying to push against the pivot a little - please bear in mind that I learnt on CCM R30's so it was a sit up and beg type of position, with my feet a lot further forward - and I found I had to alter my position to the SV... Hope it helps, but prob wont:p |
Re: Gear problems...maybe the rider
Too little or too much oil can cause this as well.
