Beware of sms scams!

i'm on orange and last month i have changed my plan to have unlimited text messages. i think they think i'm not going to check my bill. I did. i had 15 text messages sent in bulk of 3's within seconds of each other. on one occasion i got 6. i have never sent "stop" to any of them for the fear of THAT being the scam.
well it seems am not alone :-o
THIS IS FRAUD BIG TIME! the number i was getting it from was 61610, but there are many others!
i tied to resolve by calling orange, BTW am very tight when it comes to calling premium line numbers hence i call orange on the free no  08000 795000. on thursday. cust serv; i tell him this is theft and fraud, he tells me that it's ZAMANO, gives me the 0871 no
i go onto http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php to get their land-line no/ speak to Irish lady who tells me "it's not us (oh what a surprise) but i company we look after, here is the no 0871"
-no, am not calling that i want land line!
"i'll tell them to call you then"
-ok, when will they call me?
"within 48h"
too long!
"ok by the end of tomorrow then"
ok, but rest assured will hear from me if i don't get the call.
then phone ofcom, they direct me to icstis http://www.icstis.org.uk/consumers/a...p?node=&id=534
they told me if i don't get it stopped  (i want a refund :x, is this where our taxes go?, useless company) to call them again, i frankly have nowt better to do!
yesterday went with a swing, but did not get any calls (did not expect any)
i have tried to call but got nowhere, he could not put it through, as he did not know how, then mail box was full not accepting any calls
today got pi$$ED off after reading this;
http://www.giagia.co.uk/?p=118
http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/yourcou...06/08/1051.htm
i called orange and told them that they are part of the scam not only i did not subscribe to the service (she could check now  and confirm that i did not!) and i want all further premium line texts stopped.
she said; "how much were you charged?" 22.50, we'll give you a £30 credit ( :-o they must be guilty of something too)
i just tried cust serv at zamano 0871.." am not calling that..
"ok, i call it for you and put you trough" :-o some cust service eh?
so i speak to zamano cust srv in ireland.
he tells me he'll get zamano to call me! excuse me? :-o and WHO ARE YOU? zamano cust serv? and what purpose do you serve then?
he then attempted to give the land line that keeps saying the mail box is full on their website. it the end he hang up on me, as i kept asking for his purpose
called cust services at orange to have another go for the solicitation to defraud poor citizens of GB (orange and zamano). and now i have a team leader calling me on Monday. we'll see....
to me now this is a matter of principle, as i'm getting my money back :x

beware...! and rant over :x

Top Man !!

If everyone took a stand like you then these scams would be more trouble than they're worth for the :toss: operating them. I haven't been done like this YET but if I do I hope I'll be as thorough in following up.

Something else for you to check out...

Data Protection Act 1998 Sections 11 and 14. ;) 11 deald with Information for Direct Marketing (the SMS details themselves), 14 the correction/removal of data.

Throw that at them, and give them 21 days to comply. Note, you'll need to serve notice in writing. If you only use section 11, they can hold your data, and pass it on to someone else, who can then use it for direct marketing. Section 14 prevents that, and allows you to specify that you do not wish your details to be passed on to anyone for any reason other than the data controller to uphold any legal requirements.

Once this is done, should they continue to harass you, get in touch with OfCom & tell them about a breech of DPA. Then watch anyone involved in the scam get a nice investigation, and probably a hefty fine.

HTH.
