oil filter nipple size?
Hey,
Here's my situation. I bought a used engine, for my '99 SV650, from a guy and when he shipped it, he didn't take the oil filter off nor did he protect the bottom of the box good enough. So the oil filter broke off of the engine block, during shipping, taking the oil filter nipple and the part of the block that the nipple was threaded into, with it. Now I'm stuck with it! My dad thought that I may be able to clean it up real good and JB Weld it back...but it didn't work...it seems like the JB Weld wouldn't cure, even after letting it dry for at least 24hrs. I have access to a lathe, so I'm thinking about making me another nipple thats longer and just use the remaining threads. I think I can do this because there are still about as many treads remaining as were broken off. My question is this: What is the thread size for the nipple? It's probably a metric. I need to know this so I can get a tap and die to make my new nipple. Does anyone else have another idea? Any advise? My mechanical skills are pretty good so I can make a lot of things. Thanks -Justin |

It's most likely metric. The Japanese live in the modern world...
I can't check, I'm a thousand miles away from an oil change. |
Re: oil filter nipple size?
Can you not measure the old one??
