YOUR COMPANYS PAYROLL department work out what to deduct and THEY pay it over with a declaration to HMRC. They then pay the balance after deductions into your account as your salary. If THEY get it wrong HMRC don't know that til the final annual figures go in or you query it. Or are tax officers supposed to be psychic now too? :p;) |
Re: i luuuurve the tax man!!!!!
question lynw, I eventually got all my tax rebated to me (dunno if you remember but I was having problems earlier this year and asked on the forum, had to take legal action against my work, but eventually got it. but they sent me the whole amount of tax I'd paid back.) now I owe the tax man around 50p, what should I do, should I wait until the tax man asks for it, is there some sort of fine for not paying these things? in which case do I have to fill out some forms and send a cheque etc blady blady blah!

They have to tell the revenue about any taxable benefits for them to adjust the tax code. Also, if your payroll screw up and underpay [which has been known], then the Revenue will adjust your tax code to collect it the following year. So while the Revenue make the decision about your code, its not plucked out of thin air. It is actually based on information YOUR COMPANY GIVE THEM. But the point actually was the Revenue dont collect the money. Its your payroll that pay it over. Ergo I was merely pointing out the concept that the Revenue "mugged" people for the cash previously is not strictly true. They just go by what YOUR company is telling them as far as payments, declarations and deciding your tax code goes. :) |
