Track Day question
I've posted here so more people will see it. Have those of you who have done events on Pointies, disconnected or pulled a fuse for the lights to stop tape glue melting onto the lenses, or do they not get hot enough to melt it?

On Sam's Pointy at Lydden last year, we pulled the connector to the lights, fairly easy to get to from memory, through the little panels on the side (I think :p). Did the same on my gixer earlier this year, easier then getting rid of glue :)

havent heard of the glue melting before to be honest, even when the lights are fully taped up.. are you using standard bulbs?
last track day i did i didnt have to worry about getting there and back in the dark so i just took the whole unit out to save on expenses should i have binned it! :p Get more air into the engine this way as well! |

standard bulbs - standard duct ( or Duck - it's a brand apparenty!) tape - glue comes right off. Top tip - track day stickers (group/ noise test etc) can be a b1tch to get off. Put them on top of the tape not the paint so the lot comes off in one go!

I just leave them on and don't bother taping them up. Don't see the point.

Morning all.
One thing you Guys & Gals should be aware of, is that the SV has a permanent magnet alternator that keeps on chucking out AC voltage at a rate that increases with engine RPM. The regulator/rectifier unit loses excess charge in the form of heat. Therefore when you're beating the bikes N**TS off on a trackday the regulator/rectifier is working very hard indeed, & probably getting hot enough to cook bacon on! Having the headlights on obviously uses a fair bit of current, thereby reducing the load on the regulator/rectifier. It's no coincidence that bikes with higher revving engines that also have permanent magnet alternators go through regulator/rectifier units at a significantly higher rate than larger lower revving machines.
