Which Oil?

Hi folks,

I've noticed that my K3 needs a top up of oil but I'm not 100% sure what to put in - what grade would you suggest? Also, is semi or fully synthetic the best choice?

I'm not sure how much oil the bike should use but when I got it I think it was full (at about 8k miles), it has nearly 10k on it now and the oil is just over half full. Is this too much oil being burnt?

Before anyone asks I've done a search and can't find what I'm looking for.

Cheers

Differs from bike to bike a wee bit I think.

I have never had to top up between changes. The level does not drop.

Manual states
"Use a premium quality 4-stroke motor oil to ensure longer service
life of your motorcycle . Use only oils which are rated SF or
SG under the API service classification . The recommended viscosity
is SAE 1OW-40 ."

Oh aye and its the Castrol GTX semi-synthetic that i use (i think)

I did a search but didn't find what I was after - although in hind-sight I prob should have used more/fewer key words.

For that I apologise

See: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Consumables.html

The OEM Suzuki filter costs a bit more, but it seems to have a good reputation for quality. You pays your money and takes your choices. ;-)

Whatever you do Don't put Castrol GPS in, use Castrol GP instead, as they are one in the same and the GP version is about £5 less!!! GP is meant to be a fully mineral, and GPS semi synthetic. However a friend of mine used to work for castrol and claims they are identical. As it is cheaper for them to put the better oil in the cheaper can, than it is to reset their machines. Unless you want Oil that can cope with sustained High revs, then go for full synthetic oil...
