Refitting rear Seat
Good afternoon!
I have a 2005, K4 Pointy (in Yellow 8)) and it came with a seat cowl fitted when I bought it. I've now got a couple of people that want to ride pillion and the original owner provided me with the rear seat and grab rail. Can I refit the seat and grab rail to the existing bracket, or do I need a fitting kit specifically for the seat? Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the bracket in question. Many Thanks! |

You simply take the cowl off and undo two 12mm bolts, this allows the cowl bracket to be removed and you then refit the grab rail with the same bolts. Personally I think the SV is better without the grabrail, and the seat fits with the cowl bracket and spacers in place. Just means that pillions have to hold onto you instead of the bike. If the pillion is of the opposite gender this can be no bad thing - a piece of wisdom I got from someone else on the forum :P |

Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately, one of them is my mum :( |

Just get a hug from your mum and still be set up for when its young ladies. Will also stop your mates from scamming lifts off you :) Why is it so many male bikers/pillions seem to be REALLY against the idea of holding onto another male so they dont fall off? |
Re: Refitting rear Seat
I have to say from my own pillion days, I preferred to hold on to my bloke than the grab rail as I found my shoulders really started to ache after a while otherwise.
When I had a little mechanical incident last week a guy stopped and offered me a ride somewhere if I needed it. I remember thinking, ew I don't know if I want to ride pillion with a complete stranger, a bit too friendly isn't it! |

Seriously though i've tried both ways and i prefer holding on mostly with my legs, using the grabrail etc as necessary. |

Great something else to worry about at the Soho Massive meetings, hugging Bear will make you gay AND fall off your bike on the way home. |
Re: Refitting rear Seat
If you leave the grab rail on all the time then there's no need to mess about with brackets. I just swap the seat for the cowl whenever I want - it's a straight swap, least it is on a K6 sports.
If I'm using the tailpack then I put the seat on otherwise I pop the cowl in its place. Mike. |
Re: Refitting rear Seat
Love handles are also good if you don't have a grab rail.

Grab rail MIGHT be stronger than the cowl bracket - but no problems in thousands of miles with a pillion on the cowl-bracket, and I have been checking the cowl bracket for signs of problems I would say that the plastic tab that goes into the bracket would give out before the metal |
