Security question
 

Quick poll on what you think is most important single security device? Occasionally will be leaving the bike in town for a few hours. Rest of the time is safely locked in the garage.

got to be a chain for me.. obviously what you chain it too is a factor. A lamp post/concrete street lamp through the frame (not just the wheels) is a good start..

Depends where I'll be leaving it. If there's something to chain it to I'll use a chain, if not a disc lock as it's less bulky to carry. An alarm/imobiliser is used anyway with either.

Erm, for me? None.

Bikes insured. Putting all manner of security gizmos makes it more attractive to a tea leaf IMO, but if pushed, I would carry a disc lock.

Someone will be along to tell you its better on the back wheel, but I think front....

I disagree, maybe so if your garage has obvious security like door bars etc. but in a public place like a town center they will be looking for the easiest one

I like to park mine in the most obvious, busy place possible, right outside the engineering dept. at uni is good for me being a lazy f###er, and I use a disclock.

Also a very important security feature of my bike which was free is its smashrat appearance, covered in grease, ACF50 and muck, dented tank artfully sprayed satin black etc. Who'd want to nick it! :p

Where's the "All of the above" option? More the better, to a point. If you have a £1000 bike, spending £500 on ground anchor, alarmed disc lock, high quality chain, thatcham rated alarm and immobiliser is daft.

At the end of the day, if they can't steal it because of all the crap you put on it, they may just cut all the wires, slash the tyres, set it on fire or whatever just to spite you.

Valid point there though I guess ;-)

Personally, I'd say my disc-lock, as my revolver 'chain' takes a bit longer to apply ... however I've countered this by keeping my disc-lock under the pillion seat and then wrapping the revolver 'chain' around the pillion seat, so now I HAVE to remove the revolver to get to the disc-lock, so it essentially forces me to use BOTH of them :rolleyes:

Best single security device is chain ... and chain it to something SOLID and IMMOVABLE.
