We got 3 quotes , one from safestyle, one from coldseal and one from a local firm. To do our entire house safestyle £7200, magically dropped to half that when I questioned his figures, coldseal £7000, amazingly dropped to £3500 as long as I spoke to his sales manager ? and the local firm ? £2100 all in and they did a cracking job as well. The tosser from coldseal was nearly crying when we told him we werent interested and kept on saying he would lose his job, then refused to leave, I pointed out he had a choice, door or window, he chose the door.Get at 3 least quotes kwak and make sure you pin em down to exactly what you want mate.Good luck with it

Here's the power of unrecommendation.

Our local company Brittania Windows supplied units that had bad wash marks on the inside of the units. Its fairly common apparently, but was especially bad and noticeable as at the back my windows look out onto greenery so there's a lot of contrast.
After a long unresolved dispute I ended up replacing the glass units at my own expense, and these ones were spotless (thats when I should have sued them, after I knew they could be prefect...anyway).

This is going back 12 years or so, maybe more.

My neighbour last year nearly took a deal from them and then cancelled after speaking to me. Brittania Windows rang her to ask why, actually to ask if it was 'because of the people at 83'. Long memories

So there you go. Oh an **** you, Brittania Windows

I was about £800 out of pocket. I only did the ones where the marks showedbecause of the dark hedge background. It ended up about the same as the good firm quoted, and who I should have gone with.
You can get the units from Wickes etc if they are standard sizes.

Re: double glazing

why not ask a local joiner to give you a price.
one guy to measure price order fit etc.
or do what I did.measure them yourself and fit your own .

We've got a builder who's mates with my dad, he doesn't reduce the price much but he ALWAYS does a good job. He can source the windows etc and just charges us cost. The last time we used him my mate actually worked for a door/window company so I got 1 custom made to my mum's exact wishes for cheaper that a standard unit off the builder. :-D

It's not what you know but who you know so always go off recommendations. Smaller companies/builders work off word of mouth or recommendations rather that advertising so they try to do a good job everytime.
