Poor starting
Well, it had to happen. Doris is starting to become a poor starter. For many years shes started on the nose every time. This morning she really didnt want to start. Turns over fine, and once its caught, ticks over perfectly.
This is how it is. Start bike, catches, then open choke. If i try to open the choke to start, it just doesnt! I know its going to be fueling or something, so where do i start? |
Re: Poor starting
I'd check the choke cables on the carbs, you know they can be a troublesome area. Plus check the gaps on the plugs. I'm sure you'll get it sorted.

Re: Poor starting
I always used to use half choke to start my SV. Didn't want to know on full choke, but it would start perfectly on half. Give that a go.

Could it be you've picked up a bad tank of fuel? Did you clean the air filter? Check the air box is seated correctly and all the hoses are connected etc etc. . . . . . . . . . . . |
Re: Poor starting
I realise mine's a completely different beast (being a pointy), but I've had some starting issues recently too.
Hit the button, it'd fire, but then die with a little backfire. Hit the button, open the throttle it'd run fine, but then let go of the throttle & it dies with a backfire. I'm putting it down to dodgy fuel in my case, as it's only happened one morning, and I went out & "wasted" that tank full the same day. |
