Re: Engine Noisy, died and wont start

Suggests battery is OK, so my hypothesis was probably wrong, and it does steer one towards a mechanical problem, as others have said.

Yes, fair point (It's the one symptom I was struggling with)....

Re: Engine Noisy, died and wont start

Hi Peter,

Were you riding with lights on?

Don't forget the regulator/rectifier. SVs are notorious for weak reg/recs - someone will always mention it even if just in jest, but I genuinely think...

Re: Rebuild update.

Looks very good! :notworthy:

Coincidentally I'd been musing about using SV tail end bodywork to fit to a modified FZ600 I have long term dreamy plans for. It'll be a while yet before I get to...

Re: The All New Megathread

I suspect today may help! Plenty of wet stuff falling out of the sky here.

I think I'll be spending today inside the house and/or the shed. I had intended to do a pre-MOT underbody inspection...

Re: The All New Megathread

It's been said before that if you replaced the airbag in the steering wheel of cars with a 12" spike then the accident rate would probably reduce dramatically!

Looks like Oxfordshire...

Re: The All New Megathread

Thirded! Yes, sound advice. This was also the recommendation of the rowing club my son used to go to in Stratford, in case of an unintended dip in the Avon when it goes wrong. There was always a...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

My SOTD: I took Son's Curvy for MOT today - straight pass, hurrah!:D

So my first riding of the year is now done - 4 miles through town and back

(Less than 900 miles in the year for...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

After all the insurance shenanigans of recent months (I've had car and house insurance hikes), I wasn't looking forward to by my bike insurance renewal. Well I received my offer earlier this week...

Re: Voting

A few thoughts (based on the UK system as I experience it):

Sadly, too many (probably including myself at the moment) see our system as badly dysfunctional anyway, more due to the system itself...

Re: The benefits of body armour...

I agree. It's well known as "risk compensation" theory - people sub-consciously adjust their behaviours to end up at the level of risk they feel comfortable with.

An interesting relevant counterview to the F9 piece.

Re: The benefits of body armour...

It's a certainly a thought provoking proposition.

The one thing I wasn't wholly convinced about is whether the quoted study statistics adequately account for all the injuries that may have...

Re: Euro 5+ article

Except it seems we don't all have to do our bit: The article itself states that Yamaha will continue to sell the R1 in other countries where (by logical implication) the rules must be less...

Re: Replacement car tyres and tyres labels

I've fitted Good Year Vector 4 Seasons on a number of cars over the years, including my current one. (Think I'm on Gen 2 at the minute but Gen 3 is the current version.) They always seem to rate...

Re: Tyre change

Thanks both. Definitely food for thought.

I've seen several DIY 'heath robinson' rigs for beab-braking and balancing (and Gary you're not the only one who I've heard suggesting that balancing is...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Zip should be replaceable by any competent repairer. (If you can find one )

And definitely cheaper than a new jacket - you're right about the cost of those!

Re: Tyre change

:notworthy:

Bead breaking and balancing are the two reasons I haven't bothered changing tyres myself in the past. (I've also been fortunate to have generally lived reasonably close to decent...

Couldn't stay quiet for long, eh. And why not - be proud!

Glad to discover my initial guesses were poor!:)

All the best to both of you.

Re: Front right caliper

R1ffR4ff seems to have quoted a left hand part number. But the link is good and shows a right hand is 59100-33D90-999 (with a note mentioning 59100-33D81-999 too - hold that thought).

Then,...

Re: Charging oddity

I think initial temp change effect is probably close to the mark but I'd suggest it's more likely to be due to a slight difference in the operation of the semi-conductor parts in the reg/rec whilst...

Re: Front right caliper

As far as I'm aware, they're the same unit across the curvy and pointy range. (But that's only based on basic visual inspection rather than anything more scientific.)

But can you not just replace...

So, I guess somewhere on the spectrum between lottery win (metaphorical sunshine) and the roof collapsing (so literally lots of sun can get in)?

Of course, like Trev, my curiosity has been...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

Sounds very similar to my own experience: Coincidentally, at the weekend I also gave part of my lawn a first trim with my trusty Webb mower. Also having used fuel stabiliser in the autumn, it started...
