Re: Possible ride this Thursday

I'm clearing my mother-in-law's house, unfortunately, but the weather does look set fair: have a good 'un!

Re: ignition timing a Matchless G9

Heh, takes me back to setting the points & timing on my Suzuki triples :D Suzis were less fussy than Yamaha twins or Kawa triples when it came to timing, but it was still worth taking the time to...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

I meant to post this yesterday: my SV's clock is now showing the correct time for the next few months, until the clocks go forward again :)

Re: The All New Megathread

Morning Gary. Wet here too. Did get a nice spin on the bike yesterday, albeit with a reminder of how easily things can end in tears: halfway round a bend on the Cat & Fiddle road, there was a good...

Re: Newtown and back

Nice!

Just back from a spin out to the Ponderosa via Whitchurch & Llangollen, and back home via Ruthin and round Chester.

Vale Crucis abbey and the hills around the pass were beautiful in the...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

As the Hebrew calendar places creation at 3760 BC, it's possible that there were still some dinosaurs around when Jesus was born, so it's not as far-fetched as you'd think! ;):)

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I would strongly recommend trying to avoid that. During my diagnosis the urologist took 10 samples from different areas of the prostate, 12 needles each time. I've never known pain like it.

Re: The All New Megathread

Similarly, heading through the Cheshire / Wales border country on Friday, I was surprised how many fields were completely underwater (and how much run-off there was across the roads, which meant...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

GPs do seem to dislike doing PSAs, yet it is an important diagnostic indicator that's used all the time by actual oncology specialists for monitoring the progress of patients with prostate cancer. ...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

A very wise move. I would strongly recommend any male over the age of 50 has a PSA test, simply because early detection gives the widest range of treatment options and the best outcomes.

I was...

Re: The All New Megathread

Went to the Ponderosa today, arrived about 10:30 and was very surprised to find I was the only bike in the car park. I don't recall that ever happening before ... a couple of bikes turned up while I...

Re: CB1000 Hornet

That is VERY cheap, when you consider the CB750 Hornet twin's list price is £7,299 (and a GSX8S is listed at £8,200)! A lot of bike for the money, 77ft-lb is a lot of grunt too.

It's a pity that...

Re: Last chance to buy a new SV

It's a shame, but 25+ years of the same basic engine design is pretty good going. It must be quite a profitable bike for Suzuki, as the costs of the tooling etc for the engine must have been...

Re: When I'm 64: my Gen 3 SV after 64,000 miles

Agreed, but very close inspection of the ceramic around the centre electrodes on all the used MR8E plugs I've replaced has shown no evidence of cracking / breaking-up / erosion.

In my 2017...

When I'm 64: my Gen 3 SV after 64,000 miles

Yesterday, my 2017 Gen 3 hit 64,000 miles, which a lot of people regard as a high mileage for a bike. I bought it with 1,400 miles on the clock from a Suzuki dealer (it had been their demonstrator)...

Re: The All New Megathread

Still marvelling at last night's Aurora (https://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php?p=3144838&postcount=35). I've never seen the lights before, for over 20 minutes we were in our garden, turning this way...

Re: The all new, slap bang up to date photo of the day 2024

The Aurora over Bollington last night was amazing, vivid rose pinks and rippling radar-screen green, I've never seen anything like it. As visible as this with the naked eye:

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

How many miles do you get out of a chain & sprocket set, Gary? I replaced the factory chain & sprox on my Gen 3 at 44,000 miles, although I really should have replaced them at around 40K. The chain...

Re: The All New Megathread

That's a nice piece, Gary. Our daughter visited yesterday and we had a lovely walk out to the hills. Red ivy leaves were aflame in the sun on the side of a farmhouse, while two buzzards made lazy...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Did a general inspection yesterday, which I like to do ahead of winter when I'm riding less: checked the plug gaps (all still within spec 11,000 miles after fitting), hoovered the air-filter and...

Re: Tyre pressure discrepancy

Too little, I believe (based on the cupping I got with my pointy S, which had the woefully under-damped and crap standard forks)
