I did the same as Adam on my SV. Removed one of the footpeg bolts, replaced it with a swingarm removal kit fitting and just left it in. They are not very big and didn't bother me at all.

I used Smith and Allen oil on my SV and it was fine, Never gave me any problems. My 04 pointy was sensitive to the oil level though. It liked mid-level between maximum and minimum or slightly over...

If you've a strap wrench, you'll be OK. I had to go out and buy one to remove mine.
It's a fairly small filter recessed into the bottom of the engine block.

If it's anything like the XSR, you'll need a filter wrench if you're planning to change the oil filter, or find a child with tiny hands and a grip of steel.

Alternatively, lighter fuel should get rid if the glue. I've found brake & clutch cleaner is good for grime and grease removal too. Spray it onto a rag or strong kitchen paper and rub.

First, removed the birds nest from under the passenger seat.
