Re: Cruisers

Yeah cruisers are ****e. Get an SV because they have great brakes, comfortable seats. great suspension, chilled riding position and you can wear chaps without being accused of being gay. You read...

Re: The Crash Detectives - a sobering story

Seems reasonable to me he should have got a sentenced for causing death by dangerous driving, another for leaving the scene and another for trying to cover it up. Fourteen years would be in the ball...

Re: Steering issues

The notch in the middle is a sign of wear and will most likely be the cause of your steering issue.

Re: Lithium battery

Lead acid batteries work fine in general. Problem with bikes is they are miniaturised, sometimes to a stupid degree. They last for years in a car though. Bigger is better so bikes will always suffer...

Re: London not to include motorcycle in it's traffic congestion strategy

There's money in charging bikes the same as cars.
There's no money in not charging bikes the same as cars.
Simples innit.

Re: Kawasaki Z900RS

The only thing wrong with the old Z's is the price nowadays.
This 'investment' thing grips my ****.
Gold is an investment.
Diamonds are an investment.
A £15000 Z900 is just baloney.

Re: Shock knuckle assembly

Just the info I needed. I had it reassembled correctly then as that seemed the logical way, but sometimes ya just get a niggle in the mind that needs reassurance. Many thanks all.

Re: Shock knuckle assembly

Thing is they do fit between the collar and frame leaving about 1mm of float. Without them in there there's way to much float. Anyone with a curvy care to have a look at their front bolt mount. If it...

Re: Shock knuckle assembly

There's nowt on the dog bones mate. Do you mean the frame? The front mount fixes to the frame. Dog bones fix to the swinging arm.

Re: A question about fork tubes

Sorry can't help with dimensions. Hopefully someone here will have a stanchion lying around who can help.
That does look like a shoddy job though.

Re: A question about fork tubes

It's ages since I last saw that end of the stanchion so I really don't remember mate. Best I can do is show you a pic of a curvy stanchion with the bushing in place.

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

No that's fine. Mine was like that as well. Important when re installing them is the 16 pins as indicated in the diagram. Also ensuring there's no slack in the front of the chain between the crank...

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

Yeah it will either be stuck to the tensioner or the head, or both if it's ripped apart. Unlikely there's non there.
Order two new ones along with the shims from Robinsons Foundry.

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

Now if I've done me sums right you only need to buy 5x165 shims because you can already have 2x175 and 1x170.

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

Your valves will be fine as long as it's put back together right.

The 172 and 178 are factory shims it's not a problem. You can only buy shims in 005 as you have noticed. Seems you measured your...

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

Theoretically if you put the rear cams back exactly where they were regardless of timing marks, it would be fine.
Personally I'd do it the correct way so as to avoid expensive mistakes.

Hold the...

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

I'm not sure what you mean by ''put it all back exactly where it is now''. If you have installed the rear cams incorrectly the valves will hit the piston when you spin the motor so don't spin the...

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

The timing marks on the rear cylinder cam shafts won't be properly aligned if the crank is set on the R mark, which without seeing your bike I suspect is where you are going wrong.

Don't remove...

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

Read my previous post.

Go back to the front cylinder and set the F timing mark on the crank until the front cylinder camshaft timing marks line up. Now rotate the crank a full 360 degrees anti...
