I invested in some when I first serviced my SV brakes probably 12 or so years ago. They were still in fine condition last brake pad change before crash last year. They don't seem to corrode.

Maybe they vary (or I have a delicate hands) but mine is stiff. It improved with a new lifter and a new cable but riding daily in heavy traffic caused pain in my left hand.

On a pointy at least, there's a curved metal guide on the lever end of the cable. It looks treated but in fact it rusts rather badly and in a short space of time.

Not entirely convinced as tumble drier water has still been distilled and filtered. Admittedly it smells funny.

The de-ionised water thing is the recommendation written on my coolant/anti-freeze...

Also water from a condensing tumble dryer should be free of any impurities. But you can buy de-ionized water from Halfords for a few quid if you're unsure.

This forum doesn't resize images. It shows as big because that's how big it is.

You can get post repair anchors. You just bash them in between the old post remains and the concrete, then attach the new post to the top like any other anchor. Might save some effort.

Most likely the clutch lifter mechanism worn. Cables don't stretch nearly as much as that part wears.

You can get a bit of oil in the airbox through the breather tube. It has a sponge over the port to minimize it.
