Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I've always argued myself out of heated grips / gloves because while I do ride in winter, I don't feel I ride often enough to merit the cost of them ... but if I did have them, I'd probably use them...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Agree 100%, my lad's old Apollo has been taken by my daughter as an urban bike for riding around Manchester.
They're the AK47 of the cycle world: not light, not modern, but you can abuse them...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Glad it worked for you!
And it's surprising how many cars and bikes are assembled in a slapdash way. When I was on the company car hamster wheel, every new car I got needed a careful going over...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
That's one improvement the Gen 2 / Gen 3 bikes have, the rear caliper is above the disk and held on a alloy casting that slots onto a tongue on the swingarm, so no torque arm needed and it attracts a...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Remember to give it a quick mist over after every ride (once the engine's cooled off a bit), it'll keep everything looking good.
As mentioned before, when you come to wash the bike, give it a...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
This is the thing, the weather this year has been quite the contrast to last year.
Because I'm a sad git, I note my bike's mileage throughout the year. From Jan 1 to the end of March 2022 I'd...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Agree 100%. I tend to think the main reason that manufacturers dropped split link chains on most bikes was to reduce their risk of warranty claims from customers re-fitting the clip the wrong way...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Oh yes, the smell of Linklyfe warming on my mum's cooker :D I don't think she was quite as enthusiastic about it, mind ....
It was great stuff, though, as it was so thick even when the chain...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Mine's on 35K and the factory chain is just over the specified wear limit in the manual, so it'll get changed at some point.
I always paint the lube onto the inside run with a soft 1" brush,...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
By eye, ear, or vac gauge? Doing them on my old 380 triple was easy, I adjusted the slides by eye so they were all identical heights at idle and at maximum lift.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Likewise, on Friday I replaced the plugs on mine, cleaned the air filter and breather sponge, lubed the throttle and STV linkages with PTFE spray etc. Hopefully ready for a midweek spin out once the...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
After a thorough shakedown ride yesterday, I can confirm that bleeding Gen 3 brakes with ABS is just as quick and easy as doing non-ABS brakes. No special tools required.
I did run 5 or 6...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Did a brake fluid flush on my Gen 3. Despite being nearly three years old, the old fluid still tested OK for moisture content, but it's a good job to do while the bike's not in regular use.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
The filter on the SVs is the around the same size as that used on many car engines of up to 2 litres, I guess that Suzuki technicians believe it has the capacity and filter-medium area to not cause...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I've never considered doing that on the SV, although there never seems to be a need to as the oil light goes out within a couple of seconds of the first start after the oil / filter change.
