there are a few things to successful soldering or as the yanks like to call it soddering.
clean bare wire with no corrosion. a HOT iron that is well tinned. decent thin cored solder. blu-tack.

dont try and make them its easier to just buy them besides there is a fair bit of pressure on the links.
25mm i would guess would drop the seat by around 10-15mm.

from your other post why dont you just go on ebay and buy sv650 25mm lowering links... simples.
remember that its 25mm at the tail not the seat. to bring the seat height down as well you need to...

white spirit wont cut the mustard John. with the pushbike chain not having orings go at it with paraffin then a good oil afterwords.if you are really brave you can give it a grease bath.

you need a new unrestricted ECM. the old unrestricted should have been given to the owner. depending on what year of bike you have there are usually loads on ebay.

the cheaper ones dont have much torque and stall at low speeds. this can be annoying.
i have always used the ones form say aldi or lidl. the corded are...
