As above, 120 miles to a tank sounds low unless you spend all your time above 100mph.

To answer your question about fuel efficiency, you may see an improvement with the stock can, you may not.

Just arrange separate breakdown cover. I use Autoaid which covers me on the bikes or in the car.

Obviously I've got fully comp on my year old SV, but I often rode alone with TPF&T cover on bikes...
