Re: Converting Naked to faired?

100% agreed. I was actually looking for a naked SV but they are harder to find, and an S model came up that was simply too good to miss.

I'm 5'11" with long arms and my wrists used to KILL me...

Re: K5 cracked exhaust repair?

As above, any decent welder should be able to weld the crack, but you'd probably have to remove the exhaust for them to do it properly.

Re: Spark plug observations

A quick update to this: another 7,000 fastish open-road miles later, I thought I'd check the Iridium plugs again. They were in perfect nick, and the gaps had not changed. So basically, if you've...

Re: to all the workers, a message from the bosses

And councils have had the most stringent budget cuts forced on them over the past decade. Both health and social care services are being starved of the funding they need in order to keep up with the...

Re: 1979 Suzuki X5 Long term rebuild

Heh, in early 1982 my V-reg (1980) X5 was 299 from a dealer, with a Haynes manual thrown in :)

Re: 1979 Suzuki X5 Long term rebuild

It's looking great! I have a memory that the plastic handlebar trim on my old X5 had the lettering picked out in silver, but that may not be correct.

Re: New Bike

It's not unreasonable, especially as it's a dealer rather than a private sale.

Check when it was last serviced (oil change etc). And haggle hard. Winter is a slow time for bike sales so make a...

Re: New Bike

It does look nice, and the accessories are the sort that point to a more careful owner who uses and maintains the bike (front fender extender, rear hugger, crash bars etc).

If you like it, don't...

Re: New Bike

Hi and welcome. Is the bike an S model (with half-fairing and clip-on handlebars) or an N (naked with standard bars)? As it's a 2002 it's a carburettor bike. Fuel-injection was introduced on the...

Re: C29 fault

What year is yours? This is worth checking - if the STV linkages get sticky or stiff, the STV might not return to exactly where the ECU expects it to be and will throw a code.

Re: the rights of the citizen versus society

A book I'd recommend to anyone is Albert Pierrepoint's autobiography, 'Executioner: Pierrepoint' (he was the UK's main executioner for several decades up to the early 60s, before quitting the role...

Re: Bike won't start

So the headlight dims, but does the starter motor turn over at all? Do you have to press the start button again to get the starter motor to turn at all?

If that is the case, it's either your...

Re: Suzuki X5 long term project

Oh man, I just listened to the Allspeeds in the video. X5s and X7s always sound so crisp and sharp. Those spannies are well rare, too.

Takes me back 36 years, that does :)

2001 Curvy S in blue (in Macclesfield), 8,700 miles

There's a very nice-looking curvy S in blue for sale at Shackley's motorcycles on Sunderland Street in Macclesfield. The notice says it's a 2001 bike with 8,700 miles, and the condition seems to...

Harpic Max Power toilet cleaner, a quid from Tesco. Paint it on with a brush, leave for 5 minutes, rinse off & polish. Job's a good 'un.

Edited to add, it's this stuff: ...

Try this: switch ignition on, don't touch the starter button but bridge the connectors on the starter solenoid with an old screwdriver (wear gloves) to spin the starter. Does the bike start and...

Re: SV650sy - the past eight years.

CZ's scramblers and enduro machines were very competitive, but I think Gary meant CZ's road bikes:

Re: Trouble removing the exhaust

That's good news about the swingarm bearings. I'd be interested in whether you find the suspension linkage bearings still have any grease in them too.
