Heavy clutch lever - Not a cable issue

Hi all,

So this has been an ongoing problem for a long time now but never bothered to fix it until the bike is out of action for some other work. My clutch lever is incredibly heavy. It returns...

Re: SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

So out of desperation I loosened the sensor bolts and tapped it until the closed reading was 0.72 kohms just to see what happened.

Just been for a test ride and vastly exceeded the speed it was...

Re: SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

So thread revival.

Finally had some time to do some diagnostics using the service manual and found the following:

-STVA continuity correct
-STVA Resistance correct (9 ohms)
-STVS connector...

Re: SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

I did actually find your thread a while ago but that was while the bike wouldn't start properly haha.

Can you remember off the top of your head what the voltage/resistance readings are meant to...

Re: SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

So had a bit more of a play today. Unfortunately havent had a chance to ride while in dealer mode but honestly I know exactly which code it'll be showing because the symptoms are always the same.

Re: SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

So a bit more fiddling this morning and the bike appears to be behaving.

Went out for a ride and at high throttle/speed the bike very occasionally gets an FI light and clearly the fast idle is...

Re: SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

So quick update,
Decided to disconnect the battery for an hour to reset all the electricals. Reconnected it and the servo worked properly (full open then half close) with no errors shown in dealer...

Re: SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

Just checked and its where I left it, had a paint marker dab on it to make sure.

I also double checked the STV sensor and it's giving 4.36k omhs as a reading for full open. Anyone able to say...

SK5 high idle/malfunctioning STV valves after throttle cable adjustment??

Hi all,

Went about adjusting the throttle cables at the throttle body end today as my top adjusters were getting to the end of travel.

Had the bike running with the airbox off to check the...

Re: Super heavy clutch pull (Snapped clutch cable)

Holes in the levers are a good fit so no play.

I'll try to source a new worm drive. I cleaned/greased it after the video before I put it all back in, it does feel a lot better now but the bike...

Re: Super heavy clutch pull (Snapped clutch cable)

To be specific, I've got an SK5 (2nd Gen) half faired. I fitted the nipple yesterday and got it to fit fine. The cable I ordered claimed to have a part number 58200-17G00.

Re: Super heavy clutch pull (Snapped clutch cable)

Hi, don't have original levers to compare with, if someone could give me a measurement of stock levers I could compare them.

Having got the lift arm to roughly the right height the clutch is a...

Re: Super heavy clutch pull (Snapped clutch cable)

So bit of an update, went to fit the replacement clutch cable I ordered and deliberately routed it outside the frame to ensure kinking wasn't an issue. Set it all up but found that the inner cable is...

Re: Super heavy clutch pull (Snapped clutch cable)

Thanks for the reply. Interesting note at the end regarding slinky cables being a problem. From memory the last one I got was from Wemoto who stock the slinky cables.

To be 100% sure I've ordered...

Super heavy clutch pull (Snapped clutch cable)

Hi all,

Had my SV for a few years now and it's always had a very heavy clutch. Changed and adjusted the clutch cable many times with no change. Adjusted the worm gear many times with no change. ...

Re: Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

Speedo sensor arrived today. Put the new one in and instantly solved the issue.

Must have been damaged wiring in the pickup sensor

Oh well, problem solved

Re: Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

I'll have a go at counting today, mine has black clocks but after fiddling with it I feel like it has 8 pulses.

Surely the thing that determines the number of pulses is the rotor? Can they not...

Re: Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

I'm going away for the weekend so will have to just see when I get back. The ebay page advertised for 2004-2014 so fingers crossed its the right one for my K5. If it's not surely I can just swap the...

Re: Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

Yeh sadly I don't have any resistors to test the sensor. By the time I could get one and set it up I should of had the new sensor delivered anyway.

Already watched that video a number of times...

Re: Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

Yep already looked. The connectors don't seem corroded at all, no where near what could cause this issue I dont think?

Re: Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

So I just went out and attempted a resistance test at the white connector.

I unplugged the sensor and set the multimeter to measure resistance, placed the probes on the ground (Black/white) and...

Unhappy Re: Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

I had a bit more of a fiddle with it and narrowed down the behavior some more.

When I turn the wheel so there isn't a magnet next to the sensor I get 0 volts and the dash stays at 0mph. But when...

Speedo showing random numbers. Speed sensor seems in one piece?

Hi all,

Pulled the bike out the garage today after riding without issue yesterday to find the speedo throwing up random numbers from 0 to 186mph. Happens when moving and still, engine off or on. ...
